We have been supporting a major
nuclear new build programme providing human factors assurance input to the Pre
Construction Safety Report (PCSR) phase. MBarron Consulting Ltd
led on human factors assurance input in the areas of building
utilities (HVAC, electrics, gas, lighting, UPS and water) and also
Control Room Design & Enterprise Management System design. We
undertook a review of the building environment validating the design in
areas such which included lighting, temperature, humidity, vibration and
noise. We also developed two key HFI reports as part of the
overall PCSR submission. These reports covered input to HAZID,
FMEA, review of design documents, task and human error analysis, 3D
model review and definition of safety actions and safety functional
requirements.
Our Director Matt Barron worked on the detailed design – Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCm) phase of a large Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project. Matt provided human factors engineering services which included identifying operability and maintainability issues within the Computer Aided Design (CAD), conducting detailed ergonomics analysis in Plant Design Management System (PDMS), examining access and egress (stairs, ladders, emergency routes), equipment positioning (pipes, valves, hand wheels, levers and controls), maintenance clearances, reach envelopes, task design, lighting and controls and displays. Matt worked integrally with the engineering teams providing day by day review and feedback on human factors engineering issues as the detailed design matured, and ensured best practice was followed. |
